When I was a kid I hated that guy. It was something personal about his broadcasting time and my favorite cartoons broadcasting time. I still don´t like him after all these years. He´s like the italo-japanese Mickey Mouse. Always smart and nice. Bah!

Frankensteins youngest creation was even strong enough to carry a brain twice as heavy as his own one.

I´m a bit frustrated right now. I´ve got this very long list of illustrators I admire and every time I look at their work I come up with a sentence like “How the funk are they doing that? And why can´t I do things like that? Why, oh why?” And all I hear is “Well, honey, then you´ve gotta work harder to become better!” Yeah, thanks… Ok, so I´m working harder. One drawing a day and coloring improvement as often as possible. For some reason I´m a total sucker for color. I´m too lazy to do a whole drawing in colored pencils but I can´t handle brushes either. So I´m playing around in photoshop, trying to achieve the look I want. I feel like I´m still miles away, but I guess it´s gotta be like that.

We were watching a tv documentation about some zoo the other day and I was trying to fullfil my”one drawing a day”-plan. Most of the time I fail, but that day I made it.

Postcards of this little fellow are available here. Seems like I´m having a blue period.

Monster me

Me. As a monster. Obviously inspired by the Thing from the Black Lagoon. But I can explain that: I was supposed to draw a monster version of myself. On a wall. And for some reason I used Acrylics, which is close to the most horrible material for me. Everyone in class said I was out of my mind to draw so much detail. But I felt like it, so I did it. And I want door knobs just like that when we´ve got our own kitchen!

I mentioned Mr. McAndrews contest yesterday. And I made it within the deadline.

I´ll probably be bold when I´ve reached that age. (women in my family tend to do that I think…). Maybe I should get my skull tattooed when the time has come? But therefore my hair will grow in areas you wouldn´t even want to name: I´m gonna have a lady mustache!
I decided to run around in undies all day long. I´m 100 years old, people will accept that as part of my senile mind. Plus I´ll spend my days dancing to music that´s not even there. (Yes, that´s how I dance! I got rythm and style. That´s why I listen to metal, folks. No dancing required.)

Undies and imaginary music…mmmh.

Another postcard illustration for silkscreen printing. The speech bubble is dedicated to Mr. Yeti; noone imitates a psycho duck better than he does. I wish I could add a soundfile to every printed card…
The illustration is based on a sketch I did on grey recycling paper, so maybe I´m gonna do both versions: the super clean silkscreen and the rough paper version. We´ll see.

And now for something completely different: Me, Mr. Yeti and the gang spent the weekend camping. I´m not really a camper. I hate sleeping in a tent. It means sleeping on hard, uneven ground. And I don´t want to share my “bedroom” with bugs and grass that somehow made it into the inside of my tent. I always think that there´s something living inside my sleeping bag. Plus I´m extremely scared of ticks. People are making fun of it but ticks are my spiders when it comes to phobias. But all in all I saw “only” one tick. Of course I was the only one tgo see one at all. It was walking around on my hand and I felt like killing it. And sometimes you just have to trust your feelings.
And then there was my sick stomach last night. You know that your boyfriend really loves you when he gets up at 3am just to be there when you ralph your brain out because of a mean glutamatized steak you had in the evening.
What we also had to find out was that some people are still full of klischee thinking. Ok, you can tell by our looks that we listen to Metal. You don´t have to like that. But we´re a totally peaceful, great herd and you can talk to us. And if our music is too loud you just have to tell us in a friendly way. There were people who did so. But there were also people who would complain about us at the groundkeeper´s office. Because they were scared. Because they thought we were drunk and aggressive. Well…maybe a little bit drunk, most of us, but never aggressive. (This is the right moment to send greetings to little Lennart, who stayed with us every evening, and his parents, whose only worry was that he could go on our nerves).
Still, the past three days were great fun, warm, relaxing and I got my Rhine christening (100% religion free) in jeans and shirt. And I saw some fireflies. For the first time ever!

Ok, so what you see here is my very first try to do some silk screen printing. I´m not completely unsatisfied, apart from the big mistake with the bananas and the background, but he looks a bit psychedelic with his pink eyes… Could be one of the reasons why noone bought one of them on the mini press fair last weekend ;] Next time I´m gonna use a vector based image. Makes the whole process a bit easier and more acurate.

Rockin´ Robin

Ok, umm…Hi! Welcome to my little place. Sorry, I just moved in so it´s still quite empty in here. Gotta figure some things out first.
This blog will be a place for my what-I-like-to-call-art (illustrations, sketches and photography) in the first place, mixed with some private randomness. Let´s start with some art inspired by Bobby Day and some famous glasses that aren´t exactly 50´s.
